About the Artist | Thomas Flanagan | contemporary abstract painter
My contemporary work as an artist is more about listening than speaking. It is not about issues external to the visual experience of the art work

About The Artist

Artist Bio

Tom Flanagan’s roots are in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but he’s lived most of his adult life in Maine, where the proximity and beauty of the landscape directly influence his work as an artist.

After earning his B.A. in Studio Arts from The University of Pittsburgh in 1988, Tom was awarded a full teaching scholarship to Ohio University and received his Masters in Fine Art in Painting in 1991. Tom worked for many years teaching, painting and exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions before deciding to refine his visual background by way of working for a prominent Philadelphia Antique and Fine Art Auction house assessing private and public fine art collections.

His work in the Antique and Fine Art business focused on collaborating with both American and International clients and was a natural extension of his deep interest in the Arts, both old and new.

In 2006 he moved back to Maine with his wife and two children to resume his work as an artist.

Ultimately, I make pictures I want to see.
